The idea to open ModernMommyGear.com originated a few weeks after my son, Levi Bentley, was born. After a six week maternity leave, I re-joined the corporate world. For several weeks, I had struggled to incorporate child care center drop-off and pick-up times and pumping at work three times a day into a nine hour workday filled with staff meetings, project deadlines and training seminars. One night, in the haze of a four am feeding, it dawned on me. I wanted to start my own company!

When Levi attempted to make his way into the world 19 weeks early, I was placed on bedrest. To ward off cabin fever, I passed the time lying in bed with little more than a wireless internet connection and bad daytime television. So I spent my days doing online research on various parenting topics. I learned how to make all-natural baby food, investigated the benefits of cloth diapering over disposables, and scoured the web for parenting ideas and tools. During the 17 weeks I spent on bedrest, I compared prices, surveyed friends, read product reviews, compared websites, subscribed to blogs and weekly newsletters, created spreadsheets, and searched the web for the best baby products at the best prices.

Environmentally-friendly, natural parenting was my new passion!

I decided to compile my bedrest research and practical experience as a consumer, professional, and 21st century mommy to create an online retail store that was informative, easy to navigate, and specialized in eco-friendly products for today's modern mommy.
